As you may all know, I'm not the best at designing things in Fireworks, and highly unspecialized in Photoshop. I need a few designers to help out with graphics on the site. All jobs are strictly voluntary. The main thing you will be doing is designing objects to be used for games, designing items that will be used in Spectania, and designing icon sets to use on IconParcels. If you're creative, imaginative, and great and putting your ideas into computer image format, then we're looking for you! Currently we are just looking for Postmasters who will be designing icon sets for IconParcels. The expectations are low; we would just like you to one or two sets per month. We are looking for around five, but will take as many as we can get. After all, the more the merrier. If you're interested in this position or would like to receive notifications of other design opportunities at StarSpectrum and it's subsections, please contact the webmaster (animuson@yahoo.com) and include a short resume and a few examples of your work (preferably of what you are to be designing, such as icons). You will need to have an account registered in order to take any position. There are currently no benefits set out, but I'd be more than happy to give you subscription upgrades and/or incentive points if you do a good job. |

So, I have decided to release the site to the public once again. Everything should be visible for now, but I must warn you that I am still working on many of the pages. I've completed the key parts of the website so that users can access it. Registration is working again and the login should have been working since a while ago (although you would have still received the locked message). Some of the pages may be completely deleted at the moment and many of them will display weird errors since they haven't been updated yet.
Page Progressions
Calendar - The calendar is 100% working as of now. Users can add global events for everyone to see and events specific to a group they are currently a part of. All global and group events have to be validated by an administrator before they will appear and group events may only be added by a group supervisor. Users can also add personal events which are automatically entered since only you will be able to see them. The calendar also marks any birthdays during the month and you can browse through the months. You can only add events for the current year and up to ten years after it and users also have the option of creating a repeating event for events that occur on the same exact date every year, so they don't have to create a new one every year.
Groups - The groups section is for the most part finished. All the basic stuff has been covered and I had to quickly create this one to finish off the calendar. I hope to go back and complete this section soon. Basically, users can join up to ten groups and the limit increases based on subscription level. Users can also create new groups to invite people to. If the groups system goes well, I may up the limits and maybe even lift the limit for gold subscribers. Groups can set to allow members to join at will, require verification for new members, only allow invited members, and only allow supervisors to invite members. The founder of a group is the only one who can assign supervisors. The founder can also join a group to another group as a subgroup, such as a division of a group that focuses on a specific thing that the larger group covers. Groups can not be joined to groups who are already joined with another group and once joined, that group's name will have the larger group's initials attached to the front of it. Members can leave a group at any time. A feature in the future will be group points which will allow groups to compete with each other based on website activity and other key components. Each group will also receive a blog which can be customized to fit the needs of that specific group. Supervisors will be able to expel (which sounds better than kick out) members from the group if they are undesired or inactive.
Toplist - The toplist is perhaps the most advanced one I've ever built and is still under construction. The main page consists of the top 50 sites in the database which are ranked based on a complicated formula consisting of their current rating, their unique hits in and out for the current month, and the total amount of hits in and out they've received since they joined. Each website is allowed to have a description of unlimited length as long as it follows the guidelines and can add an 88x31 image to display if it is ranked #1 and on the information page. The system can detect whether the website is currently responding and alert the user browsing the website if it is not so that they do not waste their time. A website can be marked as popular based on another complicated formula which excludes the total number of hits in and out the website has received. Once a website is submitted, it will be marked as Unverified but will still be visible in the toplist. Users can view a page which lists only unverified sites and can then visit the site themselves and determine whether the website is appropriate. If it is not, the user can buzz the site which will bring the website to an administrator's attention more quickly and get it removed. This process allows the users to help the staff immensely by pointing out those undesirable websites while still keeping those good ones in view until they've been properly verified. Users receive a small incentive bonus for buzzing sites that end up being removed which, once built up enough, can be redeemed for small bonuses around our website and even, if you collect enough, be redeemed for subscription upgrades. Our advanced rating system allows users to rate a website and even go back later and change their rating if the website gets better or worse and the display system gives the user browsing the sites an exact representation of public opinion through its different levels.
Community - The forum system is progressing nicely but you can only work on something such as this for so long at a time before you just can't stand it anymore. I was able to get the basic workings of it down for now such as category and topic view, but the rest of the features still need to be built. The community is something that I will work on little bits at a time throughout the progress of the rest of the website since I never really built any parts of it in the past.
Please Help Out!
I pride myself on my work and the fact that every part of this site (concerning the code) is built by me. Building things by hand just gives you that fleeing of glory, the fact that you can do it. Even with that fact in mind, nothing can be done without your help, so if you have any suggestons on how things should work or could work better, please send me an email (animuson@yahoo.com). Be sure to include your username here if you are registered and you may see a small bonus incentive appear in your account later on if your idea is used. Don't be afraid that someone else has already suggested it either! I will credit everyone who suggests it, as I am a very generous person.
Thanks!
